1 | Write Winning Subject Lines

Great subject lines are the key to successful email marketing. Obviously the subject line is the first thing your subscribers see, so it's extremely important to ensure it grabs their attention and makes them curious enough to open it.

 2 | Use Segmentation Strategically

Email segmentation allows you to target individual groups of subscribers with specific messages. This gives you an opportunity to personalize your emails, making them more relevant to your audience, which can lead to higher open rates. Additionally, giving your subscribers the opportunity to opt out of any segments, topics, or specific campaigns they aren’t interested in will ensure they stick around on your list for the long haul. 

3 | Optimize Your Send Time & Frequency

Send too many emails & your subscribers could become annoyed & mark your messages as spam, or totally unsubscribe. However, if you don't send enough emails, your subscribers may forget about you – or miss your most important emails & offers completely. Finding the right balance & sending emails at a frequency your subscribers will actually engage with is crucial. 

This cadence will be different for everyone – as many E-commerce businesses will send email marketing messages daily, (or even multiple times per day), while some businesses will only send one email per week, or a few per month. 

4 | Resend to Unopens

One of our favorite ways to increase our email open rates is by using the “resend to unopens” feature on Flodesk. Keep in mind that your subscribers likely get so many messages in their inbox on a daily basis that they may have missed your last message, or simply didn’t have the time to read it. 

It’s also possible that your previous subject line wasn’t interesting or intriguing enough – so consider this an opportunity to experiment by switching things up. PS: We’ve successfully used this option to increase our email open rates by 20%+ – so, if at first you don’t succeed, try sending it again!   

5 | Make Emails Mobile-Friendly

With so many people using their phones for email access, it's no surprise that 60% of emails are opened on mobile devices!

This is why it's so important to make sure your emails are optimized for viewing on mobile in addition to desktop. This includes using a responsive email design, ensuring text is large enough & keeping your email subject lines on the shorter side so they don’t get cut off when viewing from a phone screen.
